I've been getting spam like that in my google email account. They all have a file attached that is some sort of graphic thing. Do you have any idea what the heck the point is?

those are spam blogs or "splogs" They use randomly fetched content from around the internet to draw keyword search traffic. In that content they create links to merchant sites.
